Following a meeting at the club, plans for an expedition to Jaca are coming together. The dates have been fixed for the 5th to 17th April.
The plan is to hire their Duo Discus for our exclusive use, and local instructors are available for check flights and mountain soaring instruction. If there is sufficient interest, we may take a club single seater in addition to some private gliders.
The present club fleet at Jaca is a K21, 2 Twin Astirs, the Duo and a DG1000. These can be flown P2 with local instructors, or P1 subject to a satisfactory check flight and at least 500hrs experience. For P1 an EASA licence is preferred if you have one.
The hire cost of the Duo is about £650/week, so we need to be sure that there is sufficient interest to cover this cost. A 20hr package of mountain soaring tuition is available for €30/hour, and can be shared between several people if required.
Clearly, the availability of the Duo Discus and local instructors opens up this opportunity to less experienced pilots and those without their own gliders.
